OUR MISSION
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation keeps music alive in our schools by providing vital support services to school districts, and musical instruments to underfunded music programs nationwide, giving under-represented youth access to the many benefits of music education, leading them to success in school, and inspiring creativity and expression through playing music.

We are excited to announce that MHOF is relaunching our beloved used instrument program to support schools in need. We’re partnering with the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Musical Instrument Repair Shop, as seen in the Oscar-winning documentary short, The Last Repair Shop, whose expert craftspeople will clean and repair donated instruments for distribution to Los Angeles area schools in need. If you have a previously well-loved instrument that no longer gets the attention it deserves, play it forward by donating it to a school in need.
MEDSS™
Music (and Arts) Education District Support Services (MEDSS™) is a comprehensive arts (dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts) education assessment and consulting service that identifies challenges and barriers creating inequities for student access and participation in quality, sequential and sustainable music and arts programming at every school throughout an entire school district. MEDSS also identifies why these barriers exist so that solutions can be implemented to remove them.

28 YEARS OF TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH MUSIC EDUCATION
The Foundation sees that students from low-income circumstances, whose parents can’t afford to rent or buy instruments for them, are given an opportunity to play music in school. By offering school districts extra support and schools the instruments they need, all children will have access to music education and the joy of learning to play an instrument.
“Thanks to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, we have more than enough instruments for all our students interested in band so they don’t have to consider finances when participating in our class. Without the support, many of our students would be unable to afford the rental fee – especially in these unprecedented financial times. Thank you for believing in our school and our students.”
